BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Every civilization, no matter how basic in terms of its infrastructure, cultural, or ethnic variety, or advanced in terms of its technical education and drive toward modernization, has some kind of educational system. Education is "the aggregate of all the processes through which a child or young adult acquires the talents, attitudes, and other types of conduct which are of positive value," as defined by Fafunwa (1974). Education, according to Kneller (1963), is "the process by which society purposefully transmits its cultural inheritance from one generation to the next via schools, colleges, universities, and other organizations." Nevertheless, the goals of education and the means by which it is accomplished could vary from one civilization to the next.

But regardless of whether technique of organization is used, the end aim is to accomplish the objectives of a particular curriculum. This is because the curriculum is a reflection of how a society's values, standards, and traditions may be communicated in a way that is both efficient and fruitful. The curriculum, which is defined as "a planned and guided learning experiences and intended learning outcomes formulated through the systematic reconstruction of knowledge and experience under the auspices of the school, for the learners continuous and willful growth in personal social competence," has been broken down into smaller units in descending order of magnitude beginning with the syllabus. One way to think of a syllabus is as a condensed overview or description of the primary topic that will be covered in a certain course. In our secondary schools, computer studies are one of the subjects that were only very recently added to the curriculum. For this reason, computer studies, which is a new topic in the curriculum for secondary schools, has to be given the proper attention it deserves because of the incalculable impact it has on the whole globe. At this point in time, it is necessary to provide a concise definition of what a computer is because of its importance. A computer is an electrical device that processes data after it has been input in a predetermined format, then outputs the result in the format that the user specifies (output). According to Omole (1996), the study of computer science involves the theory, design, usage, and analysis of computer equipment. [Citation needed] This requires having a solid understanding of the computer itself, as well as its inner workings, capabilities, and the reasoning behind its actions.

The following is a list of the broad goals that should be accomplished by the end of secondary school computer studies instruction:

(a) To familiarize the learner with the fundamentals of the computer and how it operates.

(b) In order to establish a firm groundwork in computer science at an early level of educational exposure

(c) To promote and foster the students' interest in computer science via encouragement and stimulation.

(b) To facilitate the straightforward application of computer expertise to fields other than information technology.

(e)To guarantee that secondary school students have a basic understanding of computer science.

In order for students to fulfill the demand of our day and stay up with the changing strides in the development of technology, they need to participate in frequent practical lessons that will better their comprehension and academic performance.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The problem lies in the fact that the actual scenario is not as desirable as the ideal one. It might also be something that causes an annoyance, requires attention, or constitutes a barrier that has to be eliminated (Abimbade 1996). The performance of students in several areas, including computer studies, seems to be on the decrease overall in secondary schools. The attitude that people have about it is by far the most important aspect among those that contribute to this phenomena. The primary objective of this body of study was to investigate the question of whether or not there is a connection, if any, between the attitudes held by students and the levels of success they have in computer studies.
